    DONATE: New Year’s Resolution Challenge!

    USE YOUR POWER!

This month, we’re doing something a little different for our donation opportunity! In the spirit of New Year’s Resolutions, we challenge you to commit to a monthly donation (for all of 2026) to an organization of your choice. This monthly donation can be as small as $1/month. Most organization donation pages have the option to set up monthly donations, so you don’t have to remember to go back every month.

What’s the benefit of committing to a smaller monthly donation rather than one larger donation if I end up giving the same amount either way?

Monthly donations can be helpful to organizations as they make long-term planning decisions. While single donations are still very helpful, they don’t indicate how much funding the organization can anticipate coming in throughout their year.

What organization should I choose to donate to?

    • If there is an organization close to your heart– then that’s your answer!
    • If you’re unsure and you’d like help deciding where to give your monthly donation, we have a list of suggestions arranged by cause below! You can also contact us as now.wehavepower@gmail.com if you would like more assistance.
    • There is also a helpful tool called CharityNavigator.org, which is a website that evaluates charities. Specifically, Charity Navigator’s rating system examines two broad areas of a charity’s performance: their Financial Health and their Accountability & Transparency. With this tool, you can search the name of some of your favorite charities and check their rating. You can also peruse charity options on their Discover Charities page.

    ORGANIZATION SUGGESTIONS

International Causes (including humanitarian relief in Gaza and Ukraine):

    • International Rescue Committee (IRC) – The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises, including the conflict in Ukraine and the crisis in Afghanistan, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic well being, and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. Founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein, the IRC is at work in over 40 countries and 26 U.S. cities helping people to survive, reclaim control of their future and strengthen their communities.
    • Save the Children – Save the Children’s founder Eglantyne Jebb saw children dying of starvation and wracked with disease after the end of the First World War. So, in 1919, she launched the Save the Children Fund to raise much-needed funds to end children’s suffering across war-torn Europe. Today, over 100 years later, they work in the United States and around the world to give children a healthy start in life, the opportunity to learn, and protection from harm. When crisis strikes and children are most vulnerable, they are among the first to respond and the last to leave.

    Climate Change Organizations:

    • Environmental Defense Fund – EDF works to solve the most critical environmental problems facing the planet, focusing on mitigating climate change, restoring the ocean’s bounty, protecting wildlife and their habitats, and safeguarding our health. They work in concert with other organizations-as well as with business, government and communities-and avoid duplicating work already being done effectively by others.
    • Environmental and Energy Study Institute  EESI’s mission is to advance science-based solutions for climate change, energy, and environmental challenges to achieve our vision of a sustainable, resilient, and equitable world.
    • Conservation Lands Foundation – As the only nonprofit in the country solely dedicated to protecting the National Conservation Lands, their mission is to protect, restore and expand the National Conservation Lands through education, advocacy and partnerships.

Through a network of more than 200 food banks, 21 statewide food bank associations, and over 60,000 partner agencies, food pantries and meal programs, they helped provide 6.6 billion meals to tens of millions of people in need last year. Feeding America also supports programs that prevent food waste and improve food security among the people they serve; brings attention to the social and systemic barriers that contribute to food insecurity in our nation; and advocates for legislation that protects people from going hungry.
    • GiveDirectly – GiveDirectly is a nonprofit that lets donors like you send money directly to the world’s poorest households because they believe that people living in poverty deserve the dignity to choose for themselves how best to improve their lives. Since 2009, they’ve delivered over $1 billion in cash directly into the hands of 2+ million people living in poverty. They currently have operations in DRC, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Uganda, and the U.S.
    • National Domestic Violence Hotline – 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, the National Domestic Violence Hotline provides essential tools and support to help survivors of domestic violence so they can live their lives free of abuse. Contacts to The Hotline can expect highly-trained, expert advocates to offer free, confidential, and compassionate support, crisis intervention information, education, and referral services in over 200 languages.
    • Coalition for the Homeless – Coalition for the Homeless is the nation’s oldest advocacy and direct service organization helping homeless men, women, and children. They are dedicated to the principle that decent shelter, sufficient food, affordable housing, and the chance to work for a living wage are fundamental rights in a civilized society. Since their inception in 1981, the Coalition has worked through litigation, public education, and direct services to ensure that these goals are realized. Every day the Coalition helps over 3,500 clients with the tools and support to reclaim their lives.

    Indigenous Peoples & Native-Led Nonprofits:

    • Native American Rights Fund – Since 1970, the Native American Rights Fund (NARF) has provided legal assistance to Native American tribes, organizations, and individuals nationwide who might otherwise have gone without adequate representation. NARF has successfully asserted and defended the most important rights of Indians and tribes in hundreds of major cases, and has achieved significant results in such critical areas as tribal sovereignty, treaty rights, natural resource protection, voting rights, and Indian education.
    • AISES – The mission of AISES is to substantially increase the representation of American Indians, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, Pacific Islanders, First Nations and other indigenous peoples of North America in STEM studies and careers.

The Clara White Mission was founded in 1904, but traces its origins to 1880s Jacksonville. It was then that former slave Clara English White fed hungry neighbors from her two-room house on Clay Street. Over subsequent years, her daughter, nationally recognized humanitarian Dr. Eartha M. M. White, molded the labor of love into a thriving social agency.
    • The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund (LDF) – Founded in 1940 under the leadership of Thurgood Marshall, although LDF’s primary purpose was to provide legal assistance to poor African Americans, its work over the years has brought greater justice to all Americans.

    LGBTQ+ Organizations:

    • Los Angeles LGBT Center – Today the Center’s more than 800 employees provide services for more LGBT people than any other organization in the world, offering programs, services and global advocacy that span four broad categories: Health, Social Services and Housing, Culture and Education, Leadership and Advocacy.

  • DONATE: Defending Our Neighbors Fund

    USE YOUR POWER!

As people’s due process rights continue to be violated — affecting tens of thousands of people who are immigrants, children, and even U.S. citizens and green card holders — the need for legal counsel is skyrocketing. Studies show that in 2024, there were more than 2.5 million cases in immigration court where people did not have legal representation. Having access to a lawyer is often the difference between a family staying together or being separated indefinitely.

United We Dream (UWD), the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), and Abundant Futures Fund(AFF), have joined forces to launch the Defending Our Neighbors Fund: a bold new initiative that will scale up crucial financial support to legal organizations all across the country. Housed within AFF, the Defending Our Neighbors Fund will help ensure immigrant families facing the threat of separation and wrongful detention and deportations have access to lawyers.

Use your power this month and DONATE HERE!

    ABOUT DEFENDING OUR NEIGHBORS FUND

The Defending Our Neighbors Fund is powered by everyday people, like you, stepping up and building a vital lifeline to support our immigrant neighbors, loved ones, and communities against injustice.

With more than 11 million U.S. citizens living in households with an undocumented family member, countless American families face imminent risk of being torn apart. Many are forced to navigate a complex and punishing system alone, without access to legal counsel. Even young children, the most vulnerable members of our communities, are facing trained prosecutors without anyone by their side. Access to legal support is a vital lifeline for families facing the threat of being separated from their loved ones. This is why the Defending Our Neighbors Fund exists.

Supported by United We Dream and the ACLU, the Defending Our Neighbors Fund is hosted by Abundant Futures Fund (a fiscally sponsored project of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors), and aims to raise and deploy $30 million to grassroots organizations to meet this crisis with action and care.

  • “Every moment is an organizing opportunity, every person a potential activist, every minute a chance to change the world.” – Dolores Huerta

In this ever-shifting political climate, we are witnessing injustice unfold as immigrants all over the nation are being targeted. Our communities are under attack by shifting policies and practices to surveil, arrest, detain, deport, and silence immigrants and the people who support them. (Source: Immigrant Defense Project)

We Have Power’s central mission is to uplift and amplify the organizations leading boots-on-the-ground efforts to protect our communities—especially now, as our democracy stands at a dangerous crossroads. Join the fight for justice in a time of deep injustice, and USE YOUR POWER.

The time to act is now. Even if you are just one person making one change, never underestimate the power of a single action. History is shaped by a series of small actions—each one igniting change that reshapes the world. Here’s how you can get involved, one small action at a time:

    1. The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights Los Angeles (CHIRLA)’s mission is to achieve a just society, fully inclusive of immigrants. The organization was founded in 1986 to advance the human and civil rights of immigrants and refugees. CHIRLA became a place for organizations and people who support human rights to work together for policies that advance justice and full inclusion for all immigrants. The organization has become one of the largest and most effective advocates for immigrant rights, organizing, educating and defending immigrants and refugees in the streets, in the courts, and in the halls of power. LEARN HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED AND SUPPORT IMMIGRANTS
    2. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is a non-profit, non-partisan organization founded in 1920 that works to defend and protect individual rights and personal freedoms guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution. They focus on issues like freedom of speech, the right to privacy, reproductive freedom, and equal treatment under the law. FIND OUT HOW YOU CAN SEND A LETTER TO CONGRESS
    3. United We Dream is the largest immigrant youth-led organization in the nation. The organization is a nonpartisan network made up of over 100,000 immigrant youth and allies and 55 affiliate organizations in 26 states. United We Dream organizes and advocates for the dignity and fair treatment of immigrant youth and families, regardless of immigration status. LEARN HOW YOU CAN JOIN THEIR ACTION NETWORK
    4. The Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC)’s mission is to improve immigration law and policy, expand the capacity of legal service providers, and advance immigrant rights. The Red Cards were created to help people assert their rights and defend themselves against constitutional violations. Knowing and asserting rights can make a huge difference in many situations, such as when ICE agents go to a home. Red cards provide critical information on how to assert these rights, along with an explanation to ICE agents that the individual is indeed asserting their rights. FIGURE OUT HOW YOU CAN PRINT YOUR OWN RED CARDS
    5. The National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC) defends the rights of immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. Their advocacy and legal services teams keep families together, free people from the dangers of immigrant detention, and prevent asylum seekers and long-time community members from being deported based on unjust laws and illegal government actions. DISCOVER HOW YOU CAN JOIN THEIR RAPID RESPONSE TEAM
    6. Detention Watch Network (DWN) is a national coalition building power through collective advocacy, grassroots organizing, and strategic communications to abolish immigration detention in the United States. The Communities Not Cages campaign amplifies the longstanding local organizing of DWN members, advocates, and allies across the country, while building a nationally coordinated strategy to stop the expansion of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention, shut down facilities and ultimately abolish the detention system in its entirety. READ AND SIGN THEIR PETITION

    ABOUT INTERNATIONAL RESCUE COMMITTEE (IRC)

In 1933, Albert Einstein and a small group of humanitarians formed what would become the International Rescue Committee. Today, they deliver lasting impact by providing health care, helping children learn, and empowering individuals and communities to become self-reliant, always with a focus on the unique needs of women and girls. Their work spans more than 40 crisis-affected countries, and they provide resettlement, asylum, and integration services in communities across the United States and Europe. Each year, the IRC reaches millions of people impacted by crises.

    • Defend CDC Funding and Programs – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the nation’s preeminent disease prevention agency, faces numerous dire threats from the Trump administration. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has dramatically reduced the CDC workforce by over 3,000 people and eliminated $11 billion in state health department funding for disease outbreak prevention. HHS has also announced a massive reorganization that moves key components of CDC to other agencies, eliminates whole divisions, and moves programs with no understandable rationale or programmatic review. Now, Congress is working to finalize a budget that could cut CDC funding in half. Collectively, these reckless and capricious actions threaten the CDC at a time when we should be strengthening the agency’s ability to protect Americans and respond to current and future threats.
