Lawmakers in the Senate and the House have introduced legislation that would implement 18-year term limits for Supreme Court justices. Term limits for the highest court in the country would advance a simple principle: in a democracy, no one should have power for life.
As the U.S. Supreme Court starts to deliver another year of critical decisions affecting millions of Americans, trust in the judiciary has reached historic lows. Enacting 18-year term limits is a key step toward restoring accountability, safeguarding the court’s critical role for democracy, and protecting the interests of everyday Americans.
