USE YOUR POWER!
The Trump administration’s unprecedented funding cuts have disrupted vital humanitarian work for children and families around the world. With a record 120 million people displaced worldwide, the need for humanitarian aid has never been more urgent. Lives are on the line, and we can’t afford to wait.
ABOUT INTERNATIONAL RESCUE COMMITTEE (IRC)
In 1933, Albert Einstein and a small group of humanitarians formed what would become the International Rescue Committee. Today, they deliver lasting impact by providing health care, helping children learn, and empowering individuals and communities to become self-reliant, always with a focus on the unique needs of women and girls. Their work spans more than 40 crisis-affected countries, and they provide resettlement, asylum, and integration services in communities across the United States and Europe. Each year, the IRC reaches millions of people impacted by crises.

Examples of Issues on 5 Calls
- Defend CDC Funding and Programs – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the nation’s preeminent disease prevention agency, faces numerous dire threats from the Trump administration. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has dramatically reduced the CDC workforce by over 3,000 people and eliminated $11 billion in state health department funding for disease outbreak prevention. HHS has also announced a massive reorganization that moves key components of CDC to other agencies, eliminates whole divisions, and moves programs with no understandable rationale or programmatic review. Now, Congress is working to finalize a budget that could cut CDC funding in half. Collectively, these reckless and capricious actions threaten the CDC at a time when we should be strengthening the agency’s ability to protect Americans and respond to current and future threats.
- Oppose Funding Cuts to NPR and PBS – Trump signed an executive order directing federal agencies to cease all federal funding of NPR and PBS, calling the broadcasters “biased” and “woke propaganda.” 98% of Americans live within range of one of the more than 1000 public radio stations, which provide important local news coverage at a time when such coverage is declining on mainstream media. In addition, many NPR stations are the only source of emergency bulletins, and in some rural areas with limited broadband access, are the only sources of news at all. Demand your representatives oppose any cuts to our public broadcasting services.
- Governors: Deny Trump’s Police State Tactics for Deportations – On April 28th, Trump issued an executive order, titled “Strengthening and Unleashing America’s Law Enforcement to Pursue Criminals and Protect Innocent Civilians”, that aims to ramp up deportations by enlisting state and local law enforcement. Under the order, police are to be shielded from criminal and civil liability for any crimes and unlawful actions they take, including harassment, assault, unlawful detention, and murder. The order also demands an increased “provision of excess military and national security assets” to local law enforcement. This executive order (EO) adds fuel and capacity to the onslaught of unlawful deportations and detainment of citizens, visa holders, and both documented and undocumented immigrants, often in direct violation of court orders, and regularly by denying people their rightful due process.
