Since October 2023, Palestinian people in Gaza have been enduring a massive, man-made humanitarian crisis, featuring widespread bombing and destruction of homes, hospitals, and schools. More than 72,000 people have died, and the survivors are coping with lack of adequate food, health care, shelter, sanitation, and clean water. Click here to learn more about what is happening in Gaza.

Since the beginning of the war in early October 2023, Oxfam has supported more than 20 local partners providing lifesaving assistance including food, clean water, repairing and installing sanitation systems, and hygiene support. By working closely with their partners in Gaza, Oxfam has helped reach more than 1.53 million people overall with humanitarian assistance.

ABOUT OXFAM

Oxfam is a global organization that fights inequality to end poverty and injustice. They offer lifesaving support in times of crisis and advocate for economic justice, gender equality, and climate action. They demand equal rights and equal treatment so that everyone can thrive, not just survive.

Oxfam began in 1942, when a group of Quaker intellectuals, social activists, and Oxford academics formed the Oxford Committee for Famine Relief in response to the plight of refugees in Greece. After the war, Oxfam (a name derived from its postal code abbreviation) continued its work, sending materials and financial aid to groups aiding poor people throughout Europe. As the situation in Europe improved, Oxfam’s attention shifted to the needs of people in developing countries.

Oxfam offers lifesaving support to people in times of crisis—right now. They work with a global network of local organizations to address urgent humanitarian needs and protect lives when disaster strikes. They deliver clean water, food, cash, and information to communities made vulnerable by climate change, gender-based violence, exploitation, illness, and war—working closely with local leaders who know how best to help people in need.

Oxfam also tackles the root causes of poverty—for the long term. They work to dismantle unequal systems that perpetuate poverty and injustice, rejecting the extreme concentration of wealth and power that drives inequality. They fight for everyone to pay their fair share of taxes and for companies to provide a living wage. They work to solve the care crisis and push for climate action, for a healthy and sustainable food system, and for the rights of workers, women, and farmers who source the food and make the products we all enjoy.

The 2026 Midterm Elections will be held on Tuesday, November 3! You can help increase civic participation by volunteering with Vote Forward! With Vote Forward, you can find effective ways to connect with voters from the comfort of your home.

In the past, Vote Forward has focused on letter writing campaigns aimed at increasing voter turnout. This year, Vote Forward is experimenting with a range of tactics. Some are previously studied and established, and some are newer pilots. All are based on what they know works, though they continually test and adapt their tactics to make sure they’re scaling what’s effective in today’s environment.
