VOLUNTEER: Spring Cleaning- Give used items to those in need
USE YOUR POWER!
How about a little Spring Cleaning this month? Go through your closet to find the clothes that you don’t need so that you can give them to those who do.
Here are a few of the places that accept used clothing donations; you can choose an organization that best fits what you have to give!
- Goodwill – Goodwill is one of the most well-known places to donate used clothes (and tons of other things too!). Unlike for-profit thrift stores, Goodwill reinvests the proceeds from your donations back into your community, funding programs that help people gain skills, find jobs and achieve independence.
- Dress for Success – If your closet is overflowing with professional clothing, consider donating some pieces to Dress for Success, the leading resource for advancing women in the workplace globally. Their purpose is to empower women to achieve economic mobility by providing a global network of support, workplace attire, and development tools for success. Since starting operations in 1997, Dress for Success has expanded to 130 Network Members across 15 countries and has helped more than 1.3 million women work towards self-sufficiency.
- One Warm Coat – Want to share the warmth during the cold winter months? Donate your spare jackets to One Warm Coat, a non-profit that provides free coats to people in need. Founded in 1992 by one woman with one coat to give, One Warm Coat is a national movement born from one simple act of kindness. Today, One Warm Coat is a thriving national nonprofit organization that maintains a steadfast commitment to humanitarianism, volunteerism, and environmental sustainability.
- Planet Aid – Many charities only accept clothing that’s in good and wearable condition — but Planet Aid is different. The organization makes it easy to donate and recycle all of your unwanted clothes, with the mission of saving all textiles from the landfill to help protect the environment.
- Soles4Souls – Looking for the best place to donate your shoes? Soles4Souls is all about “turning shoes and clothing into opportunity.” It works toward this mission by collecting unwanted footwear and clothing to distribute to people in need across the country and the world.
